New Arrivals

I want to say how thankful we are here at the Good Mod for all of YOU, our wonderful customers for making it the best November in MCM sales! We couldn't have done it with out you. Thank you everyone!

Here is some new stuff on the floor. One of my favorites and a little out side of our normal genre is this slick industrial medical cabinet fresh from the sandblasters. It has an adjustable table on the right side that raises and lowers. More photos of this and recent arrivals

Next up is this home made "street light floor light". Found in a barn that a farmer made to work on his tractor. When I found this it was covered in dirt, rust and who knows what else! We glass beaded and sealed it. The head resembles a glowing extra-terrestrial dome. More photos of this and recent arrivals

Stay tuned...

Milo Baughman - Club Chairs

"When I left Art Center, I thought Modern design would change the world. Now, I no longer have such lofty hopes, but perhaps the world is just a bit better off because of it. In any event, good Modern has already proven to be the most enduring, timeless and classic of all design movements." - Milo Baughman

Milo Baughman, an American designer, was one of the leading modern furniture designers of the second-half of the 20th century. His prolific and highly influential work continues to be copied, reinvented and revived by contemporary furniture designers/dealers. Baughman designed for a number of furniture companies starting in the mid-1940s until his death. He is most famous for his longtime association with Thayer Coggin Inc., in NC, which began in 1953, and lasted until his death in 2003. He also lectured broadly on the state of modern design, extolling the positive benefits of good design on the lives of human beings, and helping to define and shape the discussion for years to come.

While with Thayer Coggin Inc, Baughman designed the Club Chairs a beautiful simple design - perfect size with top quality construction. The chair sits upon a wooden base and can rock and rotate 360 degrees, so you can really kick it and relax. Original fabric and orignal tags intact.

Bruksbo

I wanted to share some more info about Bruksbo design with this post since we have two amazing pieces in our warehouse. But I realized finding info on Bruksbo is just about as rare as finding Bruksbo furniture. Bruksbo is a Norwegian furniture company putting out amazing high end and high quality furniture pieces in the 1950's-1970's. This furniture was very expensive in its day and still commands a decent price. This coffee table in particular is one of my favorites because not only is its form simple and beautiful in teak, it also has metal supports underneath making it ultra sturdy and strong. If you wanted to, you and your loved one could get up there and dance to a 80's new wave song (do not attempt). Also, I found another blog which has some info and some photos of other Bruksbo pieces. I will let the pictures do the talking for this post. We have an incredible coffee table/bench and an amazing rosewood cart/bar. Note: for some reason I cannot upload the images of the rosewood bar, so you will need to view the ebay listing for it.

Arne Jacobsen | Series 7 Chairs

Arne Jacobsen was a Danish designer/architect, exemplar of the Danish Modern style. He was and is an admired and outstanding designer. While the significance of Arne Jacobsen's buildings was less appreciated, his furniture and other design work have become national and international heritage.

The Series 7 designed by Arne Jacobsen is by far the most sold chair in the history of Fritz Hansen and perhaps also in furniture history. The chair is a pressure molded veneer chair which was a a further development of the classic Ant chair. The four-legged stackable chair can be seen as the culmination of the use of the lamination technique. A technique refined to perfection during the Twenties and Thirties by Søren C. Hansen, the grandson of the founder, Fritz Hansen. The visionary Arne Jacobsen exploited the possibilities of lamination to perfection resulting in the iconic shape of the chair. Series 7 represents the chair in the Fritz Hansen collection with the widest range of applications. It is lightweight and stackable and offers options such as armrests, castors etc.

"Finally, a chair by Jacobsen with 4 legs and with optional arms", the press wrote in 1955!

Currently, we have 8 Original Series 7 Chairs in our warehouse waiting for YOU to take them home.

Our chairs have been professionally refinished and stained in a off white colour. They look amazing! Grain still comes through slightly. All chairs are in Fantastic condition with no broken/cracked backs. All legs are fabulous and clean of rust and scratches.

Pair of Vilhelm Wohlert Piano Chairs

EXTREMELY RARE Vilhelm Wohlert Piano chair manufactured by P. Jeppesens Denmark, c. 1955 in teak the only record we could find of price is from a wright action here. Vilhelm Wohlert was a major force in architecture and design in the 1950s and 1960s and the work of Vilhelm Wohlert epitomises the essence of "Danish design" perhaps better than any other architect from that country. With his friend Jorgen Bo, he created in 1958 one of the key buildings of the 20th century with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebaek, on the coast north of Copenhagen. The building broke with tradition in its use of humble natural materials, employing white-painted brick walls, purple clay brick floors and timber ceilings and frames. The museum has also become known for its gallery of Alberto Giacometti sculptures, which provides a rare and perfect harmony between art, architecture and nature. In Denmark he built several churches, and restored others, including the Church of Our Lady, Copenhagen's cathedral. He also built a number of houses - complete with his own furniture and furnishings - that provide an exemplar of the Danish vision of a modern domestic architecture. These include a group of linked courtyard-like houses at Piniehoj, north of Copenhagen; built in white-painted brick and timber, they are akin to a domesticated Louisiana.

Age: 1950's

Origin:Denmark

Dimensions:18.5 w x 16 d x 29 h

Condition: Very Good to Excellent!!
